The Pediatrician

*Beware:  Probably a boring post for non moms-to-be

We found a pediatrician!  YAY!

Finding a pediatrician for some reason just stressed me out.  I thought it would be really hard but it was actually painless.  I asked around and received many different recommendations for two different practices in the area.  The first doctor we wanted, who was initially taking new patients, was booked in May so we couldn't use her.  Then, we got online and looked up the two practices that had been recommended to us and read a bit about each Dr. that worked there.  We both settled on one Dr. and we went to meet her today.

Funny side story:  During the week I usually make Jonathan a little "To-Do" list.  This sounds terrible but it's really not.  It's just little things that if he could do would help me out a lot.  Anyways, one of the things on the list was to call and make a New Mom Visit with the Dr. we had picked.  He did this and wrote in my planner "Tuesday at 2:20".  So, we get there and they tell us the meeting is on Wednesday, not Tuesday.  I just had to laugh.  So, while I do appreciate that Jonathan did make the appointment for us, and took time on his break to do it, I will most likely be making all Dr. appointments in the future.  ha ha.

So, on Wednesday (through the below freezing temps and snow flurries) we got to meet the Dr. and have all our questions answered.  I just googled some questions and picked out the ones that were important to me and we went from there.  She was very helpful and nice and we both just REALLY liked her...so, she's the one!  Pretty easy.

Here were our questions and the answers:

Are you taking new patients in May:  Yes

Do you work with our insurance:  Yes

Do you work at the hospital I'm delivering at:  Yes

Office hours:  8:30-5 (weekdays) 8-11 (Saturday)

How often do you visit the baby in the hospital:  Every day she is in the hospital.  She also explained that since I'm a first timer that the hospital will most likely make me stay the full 48 hours.  So, depending on what hour I have the baby they could see her 2-3 times during her stay.

When will the babies first check up be:  2-3 days after she comes home from the hospital

When are the scheduled well baby appointments:  2 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, and 24 months.

Who do we call in case of an emergency:  Call the main office, they will connect you to the Dr. and nurse who are on call.  Also, the office receptionist who answers the phones is a RN.

Will we always be able to see you:  For all the well baby appointments and at the hospital, yes.  If it is a last minute appointment because the baby is sick maybe yes maybe no.  It depends on her schedule for that day. (Which I totally understand.  She can't be everywhere at once.)

So, that's it.  Now, I'm off to fill out new patient paper work.  Fun...

Non-mom-to-be here and this was good to read :) thanks for the info and insight into some thoughts to keep in mind in the future! Our hopeful pediatrician (is it crazy that we aren't even expecting yet and I'm already thinking about this?) is within walking distance of our house. I find that as a huge perk! ha! However, I'm open to looking at others.
