Fun Friday - Harry Potter Edition

September 12, 2018

On the first Friday of each month I do "Fun Friday".  All that means is we basically do a fancy movie night with themed snacks.  I wanted something back to school ish so I went with Harry Potter because they go off to school at Hogwarts.  I did a quick Pinterest search to get some ideas for snacks and used decor items we already had.
I pulled the kids table from the breakfast room into the master and put some pillows down as floor cushions to make a small sitting area near our wall mounted TV.
I did Hufflepuff colors (black and yellow) because that's Georgia's "house", make your own wands dip, witches brooms, and make your own potions.  I had room temp Sprite (so the ice would melt faster) and made ice cubes of orange soda and strawberry soda so we could "mix" our own drinks and watch the Sprite magically change colors.
I tossed in some poorly done chalk art, her current Harry Potter read, and her little wood wand her and Jonathan made.
Our next fun Friday is the first Friday of October and we will be doing a fall/halloween theme so be on the look out!

Back to School Dinner 2018

August 31, 2018

Everything for our sweet back to school dinner was what we already had in our house.  The cute little plates are THESE and we love them.  Dinner was total chaos and Jonathan had to work late but momma tried!

Back to School Dinner - 2016

September 1, 2016

Jonathan and I had a little back to school dinner for Georgia.  I did the decor.  I kept it pretty simple and Jonathan bought "build your own pizza" supplies.  We each made our own pizzas and talked about the upcoming year.  Georgia was so excited!  I didn't get any pictures of her making pizzas or us eating but I did get pictures of all the decor...of course!

I used things I already had.  The only things I purchased were the "ABCs" and the apple banner from the Target dollar spot.  Easy enough.
After the dinner was over I moved the items to either the piano or the kitchen counter to clear up table space.  We don't have a lot of "decorating" space in our house...like surface area so I work with what I can...and I'm really bad at decorating "surfaces".  I'm better with wall space :/

Themed Dinner - Lady and the Tramp

October 8, 2015

We've started doing themed family dinners on Friday.  So, we either do pizza and a movie or eat food that goes with the theme of the movie.  The first Friday Georgia picked out Fantasia so that was a pizza night.  This time around I was making Italian so I went with Lady and the Tramp.

I didn't go all out.  I just gathered a few things from around the house for Georgia and I.  Jonathan wasn't home that night so it was just us two.  Georgia really enjoyed it.

She felt so grown up drinking her pomegranate Italian soda out of a fancy glass with all the candles.  We really enjoy eating on our back porch.  Its very shaded and is screened in so we are spared the heat and bugs back there.

I can't wait to see what themes we come up with in the future.

Themed Dinner - Rockin' School

October 6, 2015

I'll be real honest.  I didn't have my act together to have a back to school dinner.  I wanted to but it just didn't happen.  So, I waited until we had been in school for a whole month.  So, now that's it's October we had a celebratory, "You're doing a great job in school!" dinner.

It was really simple.  I just gathered a few things we already had and Jonathan put together a nice, home made, from scratch dinner.  Chicken fried chicken and mashed potatoes.  Yum.

We talked about how well Georgia was doing in school and gave her lots of praise.

She enjoyed it and really loved the decorations and taking pictures.  Maybe next year I can get it done the first week of school...or before.  But, since we home school I have a lot on my plate.
