Crib-tastrophe

March 6, 2011

All I wanted was a white Jenny Lind crib.  New, not used...was that honestly too much to ask for?

One of the company's that made the Jenny Lind made it with a drop side.  Well, all of those were recalled and no longer for sale making the other companies that sold them with no drop side have very low numbers.  We couldn't find one anywhere online and then we thought we caught a break and ordered one just to have it back ordered (which we don't have the time for since the bedding is being made over spring break and my MIL wants us to have the crib put together so she can test it as she makes it).  So, we canceled that order and found another one...but we got back ordered AGAIN so we ended up canceling that order as well and of course no stores have them in stock.

My quest for a crib then turned into a reasonably priced white crib.  I wasn't even being picky at this point.  After two trips to Target in one day I learned that Target doesn't keep white cribs in stock in any style (DUMB!) and that while Babies R Us says it has a certain crib in stock online doesn't mean it actually is.  Frustrating.  So, in an off chance that Wal*Mart may have a cute, well priced white crib I stop in and see that they do have a white Jenny Lind on display!  Too bad they were kidding and just like to display items they NO LONGER EVEN SELL!  Then, I pass another Wal*Mart on the way home from work and long story short they have 2 white Jenny Lind's in stock on clearance!  Yes, my lucky day!  Wrong.  I get home and Jonathan starts to put it together and the side rails are different.  They are plain and not the Jenny Lind style and don't match the wood work on the ends of the crib.  I don't even want to go back and get the 2nd one they had in stock because 1) I know the rails will most likely be the same as these and 2) the other box was already opened and beat up which is why I picked the one I did.  So yes, I went to 2 Targets, 2 Wal*Marts, and 2 BabiesRus in the same day.  We don't have the option at this point to order anything.  Back ordering has wasted all of our time.

On Saturday morning this is what our nursery looked like.
Yes, the black vanity still needs to be painted.

Then, on Saturday after the 3D ultra sound we went to get a crib.  We had intended NOT to order one but we ordered it at Babies R Us from their warehouse and they said it will get here in 7-14 days which is cutting it REALLY close...like, really!  Here is what we ordered...just picture it without the bedding (which I don't care for)  We ended up having to order it because yet again, NO BODY keeps white in stock.

So, this is the crib we should be getting between now and spring break...sometime...fingers crossed.  If not the "Crib-tastrophe" shall continue!

Oh no! I'm sorry, that's really frustrating, I'm sure. If it's any consolation, I love the one you ordered!

You come up with the cutest titles for your posts! I"m so sorry about your troubles. I wonder why they don't stock white cribs. What's the deal, here? Maybe you might have to go with another color if the one you ordered doesn't come through. My fingers are crossed for you!!

Hugs,
Missy

Wow, that's crazy!!! I would have been insanely annoyed at every one of those places-- I don't have much patience for things that don't work out and don't make sense- like not having white in stock.
However, that's something good for anyone else who plans on getting a white crib- or any crib! When our time comes, I will definitely be calling whichever store and asking if they have our color of choice in stock/at the store.
Did y'all take that other one back to Wal*Mart? Luckily they are pretty good about returns.
Can't wait to see the new crib when it comes!

That's so weird and really frustrating. I'm glad you found one you liked. I can't wait to see it with Georgia's bedding!!!

That must be really frustrating. It took us a while to find one too. We actually got it two weeks AFTER Giada was born, and she has never used it yet. She is still sleeping in a basinet in our room :-)
