Back to School

August 14, 2011

I thought I would be sad when this day came.  My FIRST day back to school after Georgia was born.

But...let's go back for a second.  I work, as I like to say part part-time.  I only work 2 days a week teaching art on Monday and Wednesday.  I debated for A LONG time if I should go back...if I want to go back and to my surprise after Georgia was born I STILL wanted to go back.  I actually didn't think I would.  My mother in law will be watching G at our house.  If she would not have volunteered to do this I wouldn't work.  (After working at a daycare I just couldn't send her there.)

I miss my friends.  Work is pretty much my social life besides church on Sunday but we live about 45 minutes away from all of our church friends so we only see them once a week sadly.  Once we move closer to our church then I will most likely stay home since I will be able to interact with them on the regular.  I LOVE chatting with baby G all day (her babbles are ADORABLE) but I really need some adult interaction!  I know this sounds selfish but Georgia sleeps A LOT and I kind of get bored at the house sometimes.  (I don't take her out much during the day since it's been over 100 degrees nearly the entire summer here.  She gets heat rash very easily.)  Only seeing friends once a week just isn't cutting it.

When I start back on Monday (the kids come the following week) it will be the first time I've worked at any school for more than one school year.  So, this is the first time I'm not the new person on campus.  PLUS I will know all my students and they will know me.  I am SO EXCITED about this.  I honestly missed all my kids.  I have NEVER missed students before.  My school is AWESOME and I work with the most fantastic people.

I'm thinking this coming school year will be the best of both worlds!  I can't believe this is my 4th year teaching...I'm almost certain I won't make it to year 5 (most likely we will have moved by then) so I'm going to  try and REALLY enjoy what may be my last year teaching art.  I really don't think there is a better job out there than the one I have right now.  That's a great spot to be in :)

I'm pretty ready to go back to work, too!!! I can't believe how fast summer flew by though! I also never thanked you for the very sweet comments you have left me! I've been AWFUL about responding to comments & e-mails lately, I am so sorry!!
And so I was just looking back on your old posts... and I'm sure you addressed this, but on your 10 week post, you had that picture of the fortune cookie message that said "girl" and I just thought "WOW what a coincidence!!!!!". Maybe I'll take those things more literally now ;)

Working part time has been the best of both worlds for me- hope it is for you too! It is nice to have that independence and adult interaction, and it sounds like you have a great setup with Georgia staying home and having family watch her.

Teaching part time would be the perfect situation! I really don't think that is selfish at all- sometimes just have adult interaction can make you a better mom to your baby girl! Enjoy going back!

That doesn't sound selfish to me at all! I may not be going back to an official J-O-B, but I'm really excited that I've gotten to start refinishing furniture to sell. Going to "work" once Pat gets home helps to keep me sane! I hope you enjoy your second school year!

It sounds like you will have the best of both worlds! If I had a family member to watch Emerson I would definitely contemplate working part time but, like you, I can't imagine having to take her to daycare! Hope your first week back is awesome. :)

Hope your transition back goes well! I think part-time would be a perfect situation...it's my plan to pursue that for next school year. I have a special ed degree and often there are part-time positions in that area. I think your situation will definitely be a blessing for you guys! Enjoy your year! :)
