Easy Christmas Ornament DIY

December 21, 2014

Here are the "glowing" ornaments I made for Georgia's class gift.  I made one for each child in the class.  This was originally my sister in law's idea so I take no credit for the idea.  (She bought an ornament like this with my nephew's picture in it and then figured out how to do it herself.)

It's so easy and inexpensive but makes a wonderful keepsake ornament.  And, I apologize for the horrible photos of these.  It is really hard to get a good picture of a transparency!

First you need glass/plastic ornaments that have removable tops.  You can use any shape you like.  I got these at Hobby Lobby (50% off of course)

Then, any and all pictures you want to make into ornaments you take to your local printer.  I took mine to Office Depot and had them printed on transparency sheets.  I printed them in wallet sizes because that fit my ornament size the best.  I've done this with several different ornament sizes.

So, here are a few printed.  I took this in front of a window because they are really hard to photograph.

I then, traced circles around each little face and began to cut them out.

Once they were cut out I took the caps off of the ornaments.

Then, I rolled up each transparency and put it inside the ornament.  Once the photo is in the ornament totally it pops back out and into place.  If for some reason the placement is wrong you can easily use tweezers to move the picture around inside the ornament.

When it pops out it should look like this!  As I took these pictures I was on different student's ornaments hence the little faces changing in each photograph.

I also made some little tags to tie onto the top of each.

So, once it was all put together I had a great personalized Christmas gift for every child in Georgia's class.  Start to finish (photography and driving included) it probably took me two hours.  Super easy and quick.

SO sweet of you to do that for G's classmates. So pretty and such a special gift. I slapped Ell's name on a pack of Christmas stickers for everyone. FAIL! Have a very Merry Christmas!
