Back to School in Texas {With Kohl's and Carter's}

August 7, 2017

This post is sponsored by Kohl's. I received the included Carter's clothes as compensation. All opinions are my own.

 When you go back to school shopping in Texas you just buy summer clothes because it stays hot in Texas way into November.  I do have guidelines for what I buy though.  It can be sleeveless but cannot have straps.  Leggings or biker shorts are not appropriate to wear as pants.  I let Georgia wear leggings if her tooshy is covered and she can wear biker shorts as cartwheel shorts...all for the sake of modesty.  The sleeveless v. straps rule is per her school's dress code.

I mostly buy Georgia dresses because they transition between seasons so well.  Summer and spring, you just need the dress.  Fall, add a cardigan and leggings.  Winter you can always do a shirt underneath with a cardigan and then add leggings and boots.  The few months that it is cold we layer for the bit of time she will be outside for recess.  Most of the time in Texas though dresses are just a time saver.  You don't have to match up anything...you just grab a dress and you're done.

And, Georgia doesn't love pants.  I think they're so cute but she doesn't care for them and they aren't practical for Texas recess most of the year unfortunately.  I love basic and quirky prints with timeless appeal and silhouette and Georgia loves green and things that are funny or have animals on them.

I'm also always aware of things that will easily match her brother.  Blue is super easy for that and I always lean towards blue because both of my kids have big blue eyes and naturally look good in those shades.

I haven't done much shopping at Kohl's and sporadically visited Carter's but now I'm a pretty big fan of Kohl's...even got signed up for Kohl's cash and everything.  I was super impressed by the quality of the Carter's line there (and was excited to see that Kohl's carries American Girl items as well!)  When I went shopping they had some really awesome deals going (which are so easy to see on those handy little digital price tag things)  I'm seriously amazed at how many great deals I was able to find! (Not to mention there is 40% - 50% off playwear going on from 8/4 - 8/20 and shoppers can also use the code BTS10 to get $10 off $50 spent on the back to school categories)

This was my favorite outfit.  Georgia loved the flutter sleeves and that it made her look like a teenager.  She's too much.  Her shorts are a Carter's staple that we've already had for months.  I need them in more colors.
Super impressed the quality and detailing in this top.  Cute buttons and lace and not to mention an adorable pattern.  It is lined so well also which I really like.  It is a very well made item and fits her age so well.  Super fun and little girl.
Very excited about the rodeo in Houston with this adorable dress!  The Rodeo is a very big deal here and we live in Texas so horses are a must.
This was Georgia's favorite and I knew it would be.  I was impressed with the quality and liked the basic print and shape.  Georgia loved the quirky little patches.  It screams back to school to me so I'm glad it's something we can both agree on.
This blue plaid dress caught my eye instantly and I think it will be great for back to school.  The tie in the front is a sweet little detail.
I love the 1950's school dress vibe this has going.  Up close it has an adorable daisy print.  Georgia loves the print and the pockets
I'm such a sucker for blue plaid.  I was quick to snag this adorable dress and styled it with red for now but it would look cute with yellow or orange as well for the fall.
This mod little dress is just adorable and Georgia loves it.  She loves all of the bold colors and she is really excited about the pockets.
Turquoise (YES!) and a quirky little dog print (YES!) The instant I saw this dress I knew I had to have it and that it would be an instant hit and it was.  Love it so much.  Knee socks and Mary Janes are just the perfect back to school addition!
This dress is super buttoned up and tailored but give it a twirl and you'll find a hidden surprise.  They best twirl dress we've ever owned.  We both really like it!
I feel like with each outfit she tried on I would think, "yep, this is my favorite" but maybe this last one really was.  I went for a sweet Parisian look and I love how adorable she looks in it.  We can't decide if the girl in glasses is the best part of this lovely print or the sweet little dalmatian.  We love them both :)
