An update from the Powells

October 4, 2010

So, this is officially my last "weekly update".  I'll be back to you full time October 6th.  I know, you're counting down the days!  ha!

Monday:
For all those people who live in southern TX, wasn't today just the most gorgeous, most perfect day!?  It was so nice to feel some cool fall air and not see one cloud in the sky!  I proposed all day recess today at work...it didn't get approved but it should have!

Today I ordered my second blog book at Blog2print.com.  The website was acting funny so it took awhile but I've ordered from them before without problems so no worries.

I totally caved and created a "fall" mantle and I did it all for 10$!  I wanted a very neutral look and I think I did ok.

Tuesday:
My middle school kids finished their first landscapes.  I let them pick a photo from National Geographic as their inspiration.  I was so impressed!  I think they did a great job.  Here are 3 examples.

Blessings:
- My wonderfully, lovely husband
- My students have seemed more focused
- This week is going by quickly
- Beautiful weather for lots of bike rides

Wednesday:
Honestly, I can't believe it's already Wednesday!  Once the school year starts I LIVE for the weekends!  Here are some more projects my students have finished.

A second grade lesson on line.

A fourth grade lesson on line.  (meant to be a spooky mountain of letters)

All I can think about lately is vacation.  Jonathan and I just went on vacation in July so is October too soon to be thinking of going on another.  We're thinking of taking a weekend trip to Galveston over Christmas and over spring break going to New Orleans.  We've been wanting to go to New Orleans a lot recently and neither of us has been since high school.  I think it would be fun.

Thursday:
Not much going on here today.  I feel like this entire "update" has been rather boring...sorry.

Friday:
It's finally here!  Woo hoo!

Currently - being a bum and NOT getting ready for work.

Saturday:
So, Jonathan wouldn't be getting home until way late (because of football) so I went to my mom's on Friday night, spent the night, and then went to my 3 year old nephew's first soccer game (at 8 in the morning!).  It was hysterical.  Here he is taking a break from all of his hard work.

Oh, and get this.  When we were at the game another mom who had never met him before asked my sister in law, "oh, is your son having a bad hair day?"  She said, "No, his hair always looks like this."  UM...rude!  He is a boy with curly hair and it's precious thank you very much.  Who says that?!

Sunday:
Church
lunch with Jonathan's family
grocery shopping

Saw this on Maggie's blog:
1. Do you like Starbucks? Are you a fan of their seasonal coffees?

Hate coffee! Eww

2. How do you decorate and prepare for fall?

I don’t really go “all out”. I just try to do a few areas. I do the kitchen table, mantle, front door, and front porch. I haven’t done the porch yet because we’re waiting to go to the pumpkin patch.

3. Will you participate in your college's homecoming activities?

Oh yes! I love Baylor and I’ve gone every year since graduation. Sadly, my husband can’t go with me this year but I’ll have fun hanging out with the girls and going to the game!

4. What is your favorite fall clothing item and or accessory?

I love boots!

5. What was your favorite Halloween costume as a kid?

Oddly, I usually had dance practice on Halloween night so I usually didn’t trick or treat. I can only remember going about 2 or 3 times.

6. Do you like Halloween/horror movies? Do you have a favorite?

I have a lot hate relationship with scary movies. It’s usually hate.

7. What is your favorite fall activity?

Enjoying the cooler weather .

8. What is your favorite fall recipe?

My mom makes chili and it’s really good. I also love pumpkin pie and pumpkin cheesecake.

9. What TV show are you most excited about this fall?

I watch Grey’s, Private Practice, Glee, Teen Mom, and Gossip Girl

10. When do you start Christmas shopping?

I’ve already started. Jonathan and I have already bought gifts for our nieces and nephews.

11. What do you miss most about summer?

Swimming. I love to swim.

12. What movie coming out soon are you most excited about??

I don’t really like to go to the movies. We recently saw Easy A and it was super cute and funny.

Oh, your students did great! I think his hair is cute too.
I'm curious about the Blog2 Print book - is it hard to do? How much do they cost? Do you know how it usually ships (because certain shipping companies have trouble delivering packages to our house without incident)?

Your students' art looks great as usual! My brother's hair used to look just like your nephews but it turned brown and not curly when he got older :( Hope you have a great week!

Last week went by soooo fast! I loved it! I hope this weekend goes by well because I have no plans this weekend and that makes me happy, relaxing time! Love his curly hair, not nice to tell someone that. How did he do at the game? I bet it was precious!

I've considered going early, but I have this fear that they will be wrong and I'll get really excited and then be disappointed later. I would feel really guilty being disappointed over the sex of my baby! So I think we're going to wait until the percentage of them being right goes up! Plus we've already had to pay for one sono not covered by insurance and Will wouldn't be thrilled about paying for two. :)
