A Second Home

December 31, 2010

I mentioned in a earlier post that Jonathan and I had always planned to live in our first home for about 3 years.  The reasons being:

1.  We received the First Time Home Buyers Tax Credit.  One of the requirements is that you live in your first home for a minimum of three years.  If you don't, then you have to pay back the money...and we don't want to pay it back!
2.  We bought our home during the historic real estate low so we knew we would have to live here a few years in order to make money off of our house.
3.  When we purchased our home we knew Jonathan would graduate with his first masters in May 2011.  Once he graduates he will get an assistant principle job but we don't know where.  We knew we would have to be open to moving in order for him to get a good job.

Now, to the fun stuff!  What Jonathan and I are looking for in our second home.  And, when I say "looking" we're not looking right now...I guess I should say "dreaming".  This April will mark two years in our house then we still have another year before we won't have to pay back the tax credit.  Anyways, here is what Jonathan and I want:

-  Must be 2000 sq ft or over.  That is around what we have now and there is no way we could down size at this point.  We have a house full of furniture.  But, we don't want too big either.  I don't really like "sprawling" space.  I want our house to still feel "homey" and not waste space.
- We want to be able to live in our next house for about 10 years if we can.  So, our next purchase will be long term.
-  We want a one story.  It's not a SUPER MUST but it's high up there.  I'm not ever particularly drawn to two stories for curb appeal for some reason, I'm not fond of stairs and, and hot air rises so I like our A/C bill in our one story.  If the house had everything we wanted but was two story then we would consider it but overall we want a one story.
-  In terms of rooms we want 4 bedrooms, at least 2 bathrooms, an open desk area near the kitchen (like we have now or larger), a breakfast area and a formal dining room, and a den or office would be a perk.
-  In terms of area we want a more well established area with large trees.  We went with a brand new neighborhood with our first house and for the second we don't want that.  I would really like an older home that is remodeled...something with charm.  We don't mind doing some work but nothing huge!
-  We want a bigger lot, a detached garage or a garage that doesn't face the road, and a fireplace is a must.

That's all I can think of at the moment.  Here are some houses from HAR.com that I like in our price range and area we would like to live in.  As in, if we could buy them right now and not have to pay back the tax credit we would :)

The first house is two story but its GORGEOUS! I would make this house the exception to the rule and obviously I have a thing for white houses with red front doors and porches...so charming!

Our Wednesday

December 30, 2010

I had my 20 week ultrasound...or the anatomy ultrasound.  Here are some pictures of our sweet little Georgia at 20 weeks.  Everything looked great!  She is about 10 ounces (around the 50th percentile - meaning average) and 10 inches (around the 84th percentile - we think b/c our tech kind of sucked and didn't tell us a whole lot! - maybe meaning she is on the tall side).  Currently she is string bean...similar to what I was when I was born but we'll see how she changes in 20 or so weeks.  The tech also commented that she was "break dancing".  I guess she was moving a lot!

Her feet:

After the appointment we went to the Texas Bowl here in Houston.  Of course, Baylor didn't win but it was still fun.  Plus, we had a suite so when I got tired of sitting I could walk around or hang out on the couch.  We went with a bunch of family members and friends!  I just took my small point and shoot camera so the pictures aren't the best...

We had a really great Wednesday!

What I Love Wednesday via Jamie.

{This Wednesday I LOVE}

My new camera strap cover and the fact that I sewed it ALL BY MYSELF.  Yep, I made it...and with no tutorial or pattern.  Last week pillows and this week a camera strap cover!  It's not perfect but I'm still very proud of my work!

I love that we now have Georgia's car seat with 3 bases.  (One for me, one for Jonathan, and one for Jonathan's mom...my mom already has hers)  We're getting another car seat (the same one as mine) to go in Jonathan's car.  It's a Graco Snugride but we added a car seat cover.  The cover is just fabric...no extra padding.  (In the past when I posted about car seat covers someone told me they were supposedly super dangerous...I don't care to hear it again...thanks.  We are both happy with our decision and think it's a safe one.)

I love that Jonathan and I were able to help out with our good friends engagement!  Congrats Erik and Rachel!  Jonathan and I (and 2 other guys...I didn't really help much) were in charge of getting Erik's 10 foot sign to a park downtown so that when they rode by in a carriage she would see it!

I LOVE this dress my SIL gave me.  It has matching bloomers and a hat.  Sorry that it's so wrinkled.  It was at the bottom of a bag of baby stuff I brought home from my mom's the other day.

I love this pair of mirrors I bought at TJ Maxx.  15$ for the set!

I'm loving the fact that I printed the first 20 weeks worth of pregnancy blogs and put them in a binder.  Organizing my memories makes me so happy!

I'm REALLY loving that as of yesterday I can see Georgia kicking.  Pretty cool...

AND, I'm really loving that today is our anatomy ultrasound and the Baylor Bowl Game!  Sic'em bear!

Tuesday Blessings {& other stuff}

December 28, 2010

{via Natalie}

Today I feel blessed because:

My husband is incredible.  Whenever I need his help all I have to do is ask and he's there.  Not to mention he cooks me three meals a day.  He's a keeper!

My home.  It's getting colder outside and I am so thankful that Jonathan and I have a warm place to sleep and spend our time and that we LOVE it!  I don't think we could have found a better first home and I don't want to EVER take for granted the fact that some families don't have the "luxury" of a working heater and hot running water.  {Although, we have already started planning for home number two...in about two years.  We've always assumed we would live here about 3 years and it's been a year and a half already!}

And now, on to some random tuesday thoughts:

I think...

-leggings are not pants

-it's funny when people take multiple pregnancy test...if you read the instructions they tell you there are no false positives. False negatives, yes but positives...nope.

-the only comfortable maternity clothes are flowy dresses and skirts

-that this March of Dimes week of viability chart is interesting. It's good to know I guess...
Length of Pregnancy - Likelihood of Survival
23 weeks - 17%
24 weeks - 39%
25 weeks - 50%
26 weeks - 80%
27 weeks - 90%
28-31 weeks - 90-95%
32-33 weeks - 95%
34+ weeks - Almost as likely as a full-term baby

-I'm too nervous about my glucose test...the reason being I had one about 2 years ago and I passed out :( I used to be a "fainter"...still kind of am BUT I took the test before we knew I had hypothyroidism and now since I'm on medication for it I know I should be fine. I just can't stop thinking about how badly it went last time...BLAH!!!

-This idea from Ashley is SUPER cool! - A way to make Christmas gifts meaningful, memorable and still keeping God the center of Christmas. Jonathan and I really do not like all the EXCESS at Christmas. Some families just go overboard to me. I recently read a teenager's facebook status and it said, "Oh my gosh I love my dad so much because he got me everything I wanted for Christmas" and it literally made me cringe. So, I think this idea is a really great way to keep things "God centered" and not "over the top". Here's how it works: everyone gets a "Gold" gift, "Frankincense" gift, and a "Myrrh" gift. Gold is the gift that person has really been wanting and hoping for. The Frankincense gift is for your spiritual growth, like a new Bible, Christian CD or book (Jonathan and I added that this can be for personal growth as well meaning any book, literature or cultural thing). The Myrrh gift is something for your body, like clothes, lotion, etc. We both are really excited to start doing this next year and Jonathan even added buying different wrapping paper for each type of gift! And, I think we're going to do the stockings as all Santa gifts! So, you'll still get more than just 3 gifts but it's not all of the excess that makes me want to puke!

-this shirt is really cute! That's why I ordered it from Gap.com and can't wait to get it in!

Happy Tuesday!

20 weeks

December 27, 2010

{I look HUGE in this picture!  I think it has to do with the shirt I'm wearing but I'm for sure showing more these days}

How far along? 20 weeks

Baby size:  10 inches head to heel.  Or, the length of a banana

Total weight gain/loss:  Don't know.  At 17 weeks I was still down one pound.  By looking at that picture I would guess I'm up a few...ha!

Maternity clothes?  I bought a BeBand.  I'm glad I've reached 20 weeks without really wearing maternity clothes.  I have some and they just take up closet space at the moment.  Although, in the picture I am wearing a maternity shirt my MIL bought me for Christmas...the jeans though are my normal jeans.

Sleep: I sleep a lot and really well!

Best moment this week:  During the Christmas Eve service at church she was a wiggle worm!  I've never felt her move for that long or that much.  Pretty much the entire hour she couldn't contain herself, which is good because I'm taking it to mean she likes church!  Glad you do, Georgia because you'll be spending time there every Sunday :)

Movement:  More and more everyday

Food cravings:  ehh...I still LOVE bacon but I don't know if I crave it or just really like it.

What I miss:  Nothing really...

What I am looking forward to:  Anatomy ultrasound on the 29th!

Milestones:  Making it through the first half

Pregnancy Symptoms:  It's getting harder and harder to bend over.  Out of breath easily.

Present Parade

December 26, 2010

Here are my favorite gifts of the holiday season...maybe not the most costly of our gifts but the ones we wanted the most or loved the most!

Jonathan got me the cutest baby book that came in a clever little box for extra memories!  I guess he heard me say enough times that I just couldn't find "the one"!

I get this every year (from my MIL) but I love it!  The Hallmark Christmas album.

A green tray for the kitchen from my SIL.

...that I put here.  I think it looks really nice.

Steam mop from Jonathan's parents!  LOVE THIS!!!

Mop cloth before:

Mop cloth after!  We did all the hard flooring in the house...and I clean the floors once a week (I always keep our floors VERY CLEAN)!  EWW!  Everyone must get one!

I wanted this SO BAD for Georgia!  All my nieces and nephews have one and now she has her own from her grandparents.  It even lights up and plays music!

The movies I wanted and got this year!
(When any Disney movie comes "out of the vault" I have to get it)

It's "Fantasia" and "Fantasia 2000"

Now, I have a sewing machine from my SIL!

Here is one of the things I got Jonathan.  I think it's his fav ;)  Freshman year of high school I bought him a cross necklace from James Avery...a few months later it was stolen so a few months later I bought him a new one and he's had it ever since.  Well, during football practice this year the clasp broke and the necklace and charm were no where to be found so...I bought him a new necklace and cross charm like he had before BUT I added something new.  I had a heart charm soldered to the back (so it stays by the clasp) and I really wanted to Have Georgia's initials engraved on the charm but James Avery couldn't have it to me in time for Christmas so we're taking it next week to be engraved.  He loves the idea and is really excited about her initials on the back.

Usually the necklace is inside his shirt so you don't really see it but I had him put it on the outside so I could take a picture of it.

I hope everyone had a LOVELY Christmas!

Santa's Wonderland

December 23, 2010

Jonathan and I, along with Rachel and Erik, went to Santa's Wonderland in College Station, TX and it was so much fun!  We're for sure planning on taking Georgia next year.  It will probably be major sensory overload for a 7 month old but I'm sure she'll enjoy it for a bit :)

The drive there...Erik had fun with the camera.

Eating cheesecake with no forks...

The line to get into Santa's Wonderland.

In front of us:

and, behind us!

There was an "old town" area with little shops (where I found the Baylor Christmas ornament) that sold "old-timey" candy, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. They even had a fire pit where you could roast your own hot dogs and marshmallows.

The entrance:

Don't Mess With TEXAS!

The layout of Santa's Wonderland is set up in a way that you either drive through to see all of the scenes or you can take a hay ride or a carriage ride.  We took the hayride option.  Here were some of the best scenes of the night!

{waiting in line for the hayride!}

ON the hayride!

We had SUCH a great time!
