Hiding Toys

July 26, 2012

People always comment on how clean my house always looks.  Well, if Georgia is awake then it isn't clean but once she is napping or down for the night I clean the house.

This is what the living room looks like right now.

(We used to have a large area rug but it was a victim of vomit and spit up a few months ago and I just gave up and tossed it!)

Here is where we stash all the fun stuff!

In the TV stand (antique buffet) I put all of her bigger toys that she REALLY loves.  She can't open that cabinet by herself so she doesn't play with those as often so it's a good go to if she's getting bored.

The basket under the coffee table holds toys that she sees on rotation.  I have three large baskets into which I have sorted most of her toys.  For example, each box has a set of stacking blocks (all different types) because we don't need three sets out all the time.  Same goes for the rest of her toys...if you think about it there are several ways you could sort them out.

The drawer on the left hold a few books that I change out occasionally.  She loves opening those drawers and brings me books to read to her.

Under the coffee table I have puzzles.  I have them pushed all the way to the center so you can't see them when you walk into the room.  She likes to bend over and pull them out.  She knows where ALL her toys are.

Other bigger toys have specific places in the house (closets, her bed room, and under beds).

But, that is how
THIS

goes back to
THIS

Do you have any ways you like to store your toys...especially if you don't have a play room!?

We have baskets...lots and lots of baskets! We have some in every room so if he brings playroom toys out into the living room and I need to do a quick clean I can toss them in really fast!

I love the before picture of the living room! It makes me feel so much better to know that other people's living rooms look like that while their child is awake!! :) I also keep everything in baskets and bins and we have them in pretty much every room. When I get back I plan on sorting through her toys and putting some away so that I can rotate them. I think this will help keep her interested a little bit longer! Thanks for sharing your tips! :)

HA! I love this :-) I'm trying to get all of my baskets/toys figured out right now! Although I need to get her playroom set up. A LOT of her big toys are in the living room right now.

I love it! Our 'playroom' is actually a large storage closet on the first floorl. The boys know they can take toys out of it, but when they are down playing, it has to go back before they move on. It works for us and makes for a quick cleanup because we can just shut the door!

Thats awesome!!! We store all Makayla's toys out in the open..our living room looks like your 'before' picture..ROFL! I seriously need some type of storage though..it would be more interesting if she could pull out what she wants (like u said Georgia does) instead of having everything EVERYWHERE all the time!

love this post! you have a beautiful home and its nice to have a quick way to "pick up" ... we currently have some baskets and bags but I love the idea of a rotation system- there is really no reason we should have ALL of RG's toys out at once. :)
