My First Stitch Fix - January 2015

January 2, 2015

I got my first Stitch Fix in the mail!  I've been thinking about trying it for almost a year now and finally took the plunge!

Here's how it works if you're not familiar.

You sign up HERE, fill out an in depth style/size profile, pay $20 styling fee, they ship you 5 items, you keep what you want, and mail back the rest.

If you buy anything, your $20 styling fee goes towards that purchase.  If you buy all 5 items you get 25% off your order.  It is totally free to mail your returns in.  They send you all you need to do that.

You can do it as a monthly service or you can just schedule them whenever you want.  Mine are on an as needed basis.

To get better items connect them with your style Pinterest board (mine is HERE), give them a lot of feedback in the notes section, and fill out your style profile honestly.

(I told them in my notes that I love florals and that my husband was in education and while I did do photography on the side I mostly stayed home so we don't have a ton of extra money to spend on clothes just for fun.  I wrote that because I had a friend who selected the "cheaper the better" category and didn't feel they sent her items she could afford on a regular basis.  So, I just started off telling them.  I don't mind paying more for higher quality that I will wear often but I don't want $100 necklace either just because.)

Here is what comes in the mail:  A giant box of happiness!  PLUS, at the top of the letter inside was a personal note to me about what they saw on my Pinterest board and how they used that to inspire them in their selections.

Then, it also has an itemized list of your items and the price and a style card for each item.  That gives you ideas on how to wear the pieces you have been sent.

Here are my first five items:

(I'm NOT a fashion blogger and my husband is NOT a photographer.  Also, it was raining and really dark outside.  My apologies!)

Robyn Teardrop Branch Necklace by Pixley
This necklace was really pretty and it is something I would have picked out myself but I already have a necklace very similar.  It's listed as $34 but it didn't feel like the quality of that price point.  Not expensive but it was very light weight and a bit scratchy to me.

Lawley Cable Knit Open Cardigan by Brixon Ivy (S)
So, I have a love hate relationship with the cardigan.  It's boxy which I don't like.  BUT, those pockets!  So cozy.  Maybe if it had been a bit more fitted.  I couldn't rationalize spending $68 on a sweater when I have about 7 white/beige open sweaters and cardigans.  I wanted to keep this one but I just didn't love all of it enough.

Maila 3/4 Sleeve Button Drawstring Dress by Loveappella (S)
This dress isn't a show stopper but I wear dresses ALL.THE.TIME.  And, when I saw this one I knew instantly I would send it back.  Until I picked it up.  It's only $34 but the fabric is very thick/heavy but soft.  And, there is a built in slip from the waist down that makes it so practical for busy days and sunny weather.  Jonathan actually loves this dress on so that makes me like it even more.  For the spring and fall I know I will end up wearing this dress once a week.
-It's a keeper!-

Toma Floral Print Short-Sleeve Blouse (S)
(This was a picture for the pants that I cropped.  Normally I wouldn't wear it tucked in but I didn't want to ask Jonathan to take another picture since I forgot.)
This was the first item I saw when I opened the box and just knew it would be amazing.  I specifically said I love floral prints and they delivered.  I'm actually wearing it right now.  There isn't one thing about this top that I don't like.  Honestly.
-It's a keeper!-

Jonathan Corduroy Skinny Pants by Kut from the Kloth (2)
These pants were another love at first sight item.  I was really hoping they would send me some skinny colored pants because I love them but only have two pair.  Plus they are "Jonathan" pants.  Meant to be.  After I put them on I was in disbelief that a person I had never met found pants that fit me perfectly on the first try.  So amazing.  They are so soft and comfy and I just love them.  Also wearing these right now.  These pants are stretchy so I'm really glad I told them I was a stay at home mom.  I feel like they really listened to me because I can for sure build princess castle Lego's with these on...or wear them to photo shoots!
-It's a keeper!-

Final thoughts:
I WILL be doing this again!  Not monthly (its just after Christmas and my girl's trip so I already have a TON of new clothes) but maybe quarterly?  And, I will get better pictures ;)  This box had the potential for me to keep all 5 items.  The price discount (the 25% off for keeping all 5) is really tempting...but three items out of my first box is WAY better than I was expecting!  And. sorry for any typos.  I wrote this post REALLY fast!

And, if you want to try it out, sign up HERE.

So fun!! I love that floral top on you! I have been wanting to try it but I've also heard that even the cheap option isn't all that cheap. I might have to look into it more!!

Cute choices! I've been thinking about using it but haven't pulled the trigger yet. If I do I'll definitely make a pin board first - good idea!

Love all the items you kept! Three is great for your first fix, I only kept one. My second one I kept two. I might have to do a stitch fix post next time I get my box!

Stitch Fix is amazing and like you, I could NOT believe that they sent a pair of jeans that fit me like they were made for me. I have only gotten one but I intend to do another closer to Spring. It's so much fun opening it and seeing all the goodies. Enjoyable post and I agreed with you on what you kept.

Thank you so much for sharing this!! I have heard about it before but I was contemplating biting the bullet. I always see people in these fab outfits that I feel like I would never be able to pull off so I think I may have to try it. :)
