The "Family" Plan

October 21, 2010

Now that Baby Powell #1 is on the way I figured it's time to discuss our general family plan time line.  I feel that I may be the ONLY one who feels this way but I want my children spread out.  I DO NOT want them spaced every 2 years.  I would love one to be in school (pre school) when the other comes.  I want to be able to give my second and third child (yes, I want 3 kids) the same one on one attention the first child received.  So, I want my first child to be at least 3 (preferably 4) before baby 2 is born.

I have 2 older brothers.  Travis is 9 years older than me while Austin isn't even 2 years older than me.  We're 20 months apart (since I was a "surprise" baby).  Travis and I ALWAYS got along.  He was THE best older brother.  Austin, while a great older brother, him and I rarely saw eye to eye growing up.  We were either best friends or bitter enemies.  I know that had a lot to do with our ages.  My mom said it was so hard because Austin wasn't even potty trained when I was born.  On the up side I always had a play mate but that usually resulted in a lot of fighting!

Pictures of Austin and I at our best:

Note:
1.  I have no idea why my parents put us in a prom pose.
2.  My mom did not cut my hair this length.  This is the all the growth I had at this point.
3.  I wish Austin wasn't adopted so I could bottle up his cuteness and give it to my future child
4.  My grandmother's living room still looks exactly like this.
5.  I'm pretty sure my thighs are touching in this picture.

Here we are at our best friends stage.  I'm sure that 2 seconds after this was taken I was complaining about Austin bothering me.

And, now as grown ups...he's single ladies!!!

Jonathan has one older sister, Christi, who was 6 when Jonathan was born.  Jonathan's mom told me she loved having Jonathan at home while Christi was at school but she also told me she wishes she would have had a third child.  I agree...I think 2 is boring.

So, here is the plan.  Jonathan and I will have 2 kids (4 years apart?) and then will adopt our 3rd.  So, by the time we're 33 we should be done having (and adopting) kiddies.  Perfect.  My mom was 33 when I surprised graced her with my presence.

(hahahaha!  I know you're reading this mom!  Don't say I'm crazy for wanting 3 kids...you had 3 and we all turned out PERFECT!)

Love the family plan!! Although i want my 3 closer together, there is definitely a case to be made for having them farther apart. My mom had us each 4 years apart and said it was the best thing she ever did... even if she did have her last at 38!!!

Hi! I'm new to your blog (found through Kelly's Korner)- congrats on the baby! I totally agree with you about spacing our babies out 3-4 years apart... and everyone else I've mentioned that too thinks I'm crazy!
