I Love Wednesday

WILW hosted by Jamie!

Today I am loving:

1.  The burp clothes Callie sent me!  LOVE them!  Thanks SO MUCH Callie!

2.  Baby Wise- Jonathan and I were sitting on the couch the other night and I was thinking about feeding and sleeping schedules for Georgia.  I mentioned it to Jonathan and he started cracking up laughing and said, "I never really thought of her actually being here!"  Yeah, me neither.  AND, I have a lot to live up to.  My sister in law is like the baby whisperer or something and had both of her babies sleeping through the night at 6 weeks!  Her oldest is a sleeping champ I tell you!  So anyways, I've seen Baby Wise all over the blogger world so we went and got a copy and I LOVE it!  I read the first 4 chapters in one sitting.  To me, it just makes a lot of sense.  Obviously, we'll take each day as it comes but I'm glad it's all starting to make some sense in my head before she actually gets here!

3.  I've made some baby progress since my last appointment.  I don't know my weight gain because the student nurse couldn't figure out the scale.  I'm being totally honest.  (Two appointments ago there was a high school student shadowing my doc for the day and she did a better job doing my chart than this student nurse who was in her 40's...I think she must have been nervous.)  Anyways, she put on my chart that I was up 8 lbs since last week...um, that is CLEARLY wrong.  Even when my appointments were a month apart the most I ever gained in a month was 4 lbs so there is NO WAY I gained 8 in 7 days!  I'm officially dilated to a 1 now.  When she told me I said, "YAY!  Progress!"  Her and my regular nurse laughed and clapped for me since at my last appointment I was "very high and totally closed".  I've also started to thin some but she didn't give me a percent so my guess is that it isn't much.  I asked her about my swelling (hands, feet, ankles, and now legs) and she said it was most likely due to the heat since my blood pressure is still very low.  So, nothing to worry about there.  She said I've done pregnancy "right" and that my body is "good" at being pregnant.  So, that's good news :)  I had the option of doing elective induction at 39 weeks but I told her I would pass on that.  I just really DO NOT want to be induced...at all.  So, next week at my 39 week appointment we'll reassess and go from there.  I don't on the other hand want to go past my due date and the dr. does not recommend going to 41 or 42 although she said I could if I wanted to...no thanks.  Her prediction is that I will go into labor on my own...how she predicts that I have no clue.  So, in 12 days or less I should have a little girl!

4.  AND in AWESOME and AMAZING news, I am absolutely loving the fact that my husband got a promotion (for lack of a better word)!  My husband is an English teacher / coach and yesterday he interviewed to be a "mentor" teacher at his campus.  He was the first person interviewed and he got the job on the spot!  His campus has 3 levels of teachers.  Teachers, mentor teacher, and master teachers.  So, he'll be in charge of the new teachers on campus and get a very nice raise.  (In addition to the raise he got for moving back to high school sports and the raise for completing his masters...I am so beyond proud of him!)  I love being married to someone so dedicated to his job and hard working.  What a blessing :)

Yay for progress and Yay for the promotion!

I love babywise. We read it before Grace arrived and did it full on for the first two weeks and she was doing great! THEN we got lazy and began doing un Babywise things and she started doing horribly. We "reset," and just 48 hours later she was sleeping a 6 hour chunk and a 4 hour chunk at night. Awesome!

I'm glad that you got the burp cloths! That's great that your hubby got a promotion, and that you've made progress! I've read some of Babywise, and I agree - it just makes sense to me too. Wyatt's sleeping through the night now, so I guess whatever we're doing is working! Ha!

Congrats on your hubby's promotion! Perfect timing! My good friend used the baby wise method with her daughter. She started it at like 2 weeks old and she was down to just one feeding in the night at 4 weeks and sleeping through the night at 6 weeks. Now the baby girl WANTS to go to bed at like 730 and sleeps til she's woken up (between 7-9am). She just turned 1. Baby wise worked so easily for my friend. My sister tried it with her son and he would have NONE of that! She pretty much demand feeds him now (at 8 months). He sleeps ok through the night, but is a very fussy napper. I have NO advice because I'm not a mom...just telling you about my friend and sister. I have heard of baby wise working for several other people I know as well. Good luck figuring it out! Can't wait to "meet" Georgia!

Hi. I lurk a fair bit, but your latest post made me wanna comment! I totally don't wanna be raining on your parade, but I just thought I'd share my experience. I had my first little girl 6 months ago, and like you, LOVED Babywise before I had my baby. I thought it just made sense and that it wasn't really that hard.

Unfortunately, I now believe that book to be full of unrealistic promises to new parents. My baby girl just did not work with Babywise ... I tried and tried for ages, letting her cry, trying to get her to do everything they said, feeding on schedule etc. It made for a horrible start with us. I got some help from my midwife and a local lactation consultant, who both said that the advice in Babywise was medically unsound. When I started demand feeding and watching baby's cues instead of scheduling, life got so.much.better. And guess what? She does not (and never has) snack feed, she sleeps through the night (and was doing so at 9 or 10 weeks) and has now, at 6 months, got herself into a great, very predictable routine. I just had to watch HER for her routine, instead of trying to mandate my own.

For what it's worth .... I do have friends that have had great babies and used Babywise.I also have plenty who have tried and found it to be utterly unhelpful.

I only say that to potentially save you some of the guilt and sadness that it caused me while I was trying to adjust to a newborn -- I continually felt like a failure because my little girl wasn't doing what the book said she should do. Turns out there was nothing wrong with her or me at all.

But if little Georgia is a Babywise baby, then life will be beautiful for you all :-) I hope she is!
