We got home from Galveston on Monday and put her down for a nap. We eventually woke her up because she was napping so long and I knew something was wrong right away. No energy, very hot...
I took her temperature and it was 103. I gave her some Motrin thinking it may have been sun exposure from our weekend. She continued to be fussy until bedtime.
She slept from 7:30-7:15 and woke up hysterical. I took her temperature and it was 104. Yikes. Gave her Motrin, ice cold milk, and put an ice pack wrapped in a towel on her back. I made an appointment right away thinking she may have an ear infection from either the beach or pool.
10:00 we are at the doctor. She was pretty much hysterical the entire appointment (all 2 hours of it!). Her ears, nose, and throat were all fine. She has no other symptoms besides the fever. Her strep test and flu test were both negative. Taking her temperature, listening to her heart, anyone new even coming in the room was enough to cause a total melt down and she was literally clawing at me and my clothes to get her away. It's the saddest thing I've ever seen.
Since all her tests were normal they had to do a finger prick to see if she has an infection. They determined that yes she does have an infection because her white cell count was very high. The next step is to see if she has a UTI. Apparently, UTI's are the leading cause, in little girls, of fevers with no other symptoms.
To do this test they need a urine sample and since babies can't pee in a cup they have to do a catheter. This appointment was already rough enough without adding that in. They wanted to run two tests but only got enough urine to run one. We'll get the results on Thursday. In the mean time they gave her a shot (which gave her a rash at the injection site and a bruise) and a prescription.
At this point I'm praying she has a UTI. She doesn't need any more tests. I'm calling the doctor again when they open because she woke up at 5 this morning with 102.7 and throwing up (which just appears to be something G does when she's sick. We've dealt with a lot of throw up in the past year.) If she does have a UTI it would be odd because I looked up the causes (not enough fluids, bubble baths, constipation, poor diet) and the only one she has is the genetic factor (on J's side of the family, I've never had one.)
So, please pray for my baby! (Galveston pictures and birthday pictures will just have to wait until she is feeling better.)
*update* As of 8:00 this morning she is up and playing and eating. Feeling much better!

Poor thing!! That is just heartbreaking! Prayers for speedy recovery and that they can find the cause.

Ooh the part about the catheter made me cringe! But I'm glad she is feeling better already!

Thats terrible!! I'm not sure if you know or not..but I can remember when I went w/my cousin to a dr appointment when her kids were little. They needed urine from one of them (was still a baby) for one reason or another..but anyways they had this pouch thing that had adhesive stuff around the edges..they just placed that part over the 'area'..but her diaper back on her and waited for the pee! No catheters! You might want to ask about that option, if you ever come across this again! Hope G is better!
