Train Wreck

July 24, 2012

HELP!

After having Georgia my hair has been a complete train wreck!  I know after you have a baby you lose a lot of hair but combine that with the fact that I have hypothyroidism and my hormone levels went crazy after birth and my hair was coming out if clumps until a few months ago.

Now, it's growing back in.  All the new growth is only a few inches long and visible all around my hair line.  Not only does it look like I have a full on mullet in the back (not pictured) and huge sideburns on the side but it's growing back in with texture, body, and curl...whaaaa.

Notice the ringlets in the back.  I've NEVER had a natural curl on my head EVER!

Here is what I need help with.

What do I use to tame this mess?  Product suggestions PLEASE!

I straighten it but I've never had to use special products because my hair is thick, not greasy, and board straight.  Humidity used to just make it more straight.  And, now after having G my scalp is very dry too.

Please leave comments to let me know what works for y'all!

That's so funny, I heard that your hair can change like that after having a baby! I've had naturally curly hair since puberty, and I just straighten it and don't use many special products . . . what kind of products are you looking for? Something the help straighten the curl, or control the fizz? I've always found with my hair being curly that the anti-fizz products work great if I let my hair do it's thing, but if I use the products and then decide to straighten it, it just looks more greasy. The ones I use most though are John Frieda's anti-fizz serum and a glossing finishing spray.

Girl it's not just you! My hair around my hair line is like that, and curly too. I also have crazy straight hair and even when I straighten those pieces, they still curl back up. I want to do the top knot but I can't because of the new hairs! Let me know what advice you get!

I have no advice, but you're not alone! I have about a million baby hairs that stick up right in the middle of my forehead. It's so annoying! I just put my hair in a ponytail and a headband most days and try to ignore them, haha.

Sorry girl! I also have zero advice! I have the same issue and I haven't really found anything that helps!

Trying eating more foods with omega 3 fatty acids (olive oil, fish) that will help with the dryness.. I take biotin supplement which has helped me a lot with getting all those pesky little hairs to grow out faster and be stronger so the won't break. As far as hair products go... I have super thick super straight hair and have fallen in love with suave's shampoo/cond that is gold and has keratin in it. Fabulous! I used to only buy redken brand but tried the suave knock offs and have been shocked at how much i like them!

The greatest straightening product on the face of the planet is called Keratin Complex Infusion by Coppola. It's pricy ($40) for the bottle but it lasts forever and is also the only product you need/will ever want. It is great for smoothing and straightening and helps with the frizz because of the humidity. I can't believe your curls...you have always had the straightest hair!!!

Ugh, my post baby hair is a mess, too.
I've always had thick, curly/frizzy hair though, so I'd say just put some smoothing serum in before you straighten it. Most of the ones I've tried, I do while my hair is still wet. As far as the little baby hairs, I have no idea. I got some side bangs and that covers them up because they look RIDICULOUS. Otherwise, I just try to pretend they're not there ;)

Oh, and as for dry scalp you can try VO5 (or is it VO8...either way) hot oil treatment. You just warm it up under the water in the shower and put a little on your scalp and let it sit. I haven't used it in years but I think you can just buy it at walmart.

My hair fell out like that too. It looks horrible when I had a weird bald ring around my head. Now its coming back the same way and I have no clue what to do with it either. Very frustrating.

I too am going through the exact same thing. I posted some pics on insta last week about what a mess my hair is. I have always had super straight THICK hair and have never been able to ever get my hair to curl. Now I have all these tight curls only underneath section of my hair. I've Fred straightening and nothing seems to work. I do have some products I swear by in general but not sure they help with the curl : (
